I’m Naina, pronouns are she/her. Pronunciation for my name is NaY-na Shah.

At Cadence OneFive, my role is…

I’m a Generalist. I’ll be helping the product/coders teams out wherever I can, mostly with data analysis, exploration, and other product-related tasks. Most of the work I’m doing is a continuation on from the things I learnt as a Building Science Intern.

Who am I?

Away from work

I’m based in NYC (although I’m originally from just outside London, UK). Whenever I have free time, I mostly want to be outside (usually walking and hiking) but this isn’t always possible in New York, so I also enjoy sci-fi and fantasy (books and movies - Michael Crichton is my favorite author and Jurassic Park is my favorite movie!), cooking (particularly Italian food since I studied abroad in Florence), or watching sports (rugby, baseball, and tennis are my go to!)

At work

I just graduated in May 2024 so don’t yet have much career history to speak of. My experience in college mostly involved figuring out ways to use data science in various environmental fields (previously mostly ecology based but moving towards physical sciences now such as building science and oceanography). In terms of career interests, I want to find something where I can combine my interests in data science and environmental science, in order to solve climate issues in a data-forward way - which is exactly what we’re doing here!

Goals

Learning goals

Even though I’m not an intern anymore, I still want to learn as much as possible. My data science skills are coming along, but I would like to keep developing these in the application, e.g. through developing ML models we can use for making predictions. I’m also interested in expanding my knowledge of development and how we build the app, especially in the backend. This is great for expanding my Python skills. Lastly, I want to keep learning building science physics!

Career goals

My career goals are pretty small scale at the moment as I’m just starting out. As mentioned, I want to do something where I can combine helping the planet with some kind of data analysis work. I’m not sure where that’s going to take me but I imagine it’ll be ever-changing.

How to support me as we work together

  • I’m still learning a lot of this so I will have lots of questions about how things work, both technically and with the company

  • I’m very much a morning person and like to get a bit of focus time in in the early AM. I also prefer meetings to be earlier in the day rather than later so I’m more switched on for them

Feedback preferences

Feedback is essential to me, especially on projects where I feel I’m starting quite fresh. I can do face-to-face meetings for more in-depth and detailed discussions and messages for shorter comments! Comments on code/docs are also welcome.

Schedule and availability

I will be in NY for the most part so Eastern Time for time zone. There might be times when I’m in the UK, but I can work any time zone. I am also available mostly whenever, but as mentioned, for meetings I prefer mornings!
